Barbara J. Scheuermann

Seit 2012 Kuratorin am Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, Ludwigshafen am Rhein (zur Zeit in Elternzeit), zuvor freie Kuratorin in Berlin, Gastgebern des Kunstprojektraums Babusch. 2007-2008 Kuratorin an der Tate Modern, London, davor u.a. als wissenschaftliche Volontärin an K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, und wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Haus der Kunst, München. Lebt in Köln.

Dissertation (2005) über Erzählstrategien in zeitgenössischen Kunstwerken am Beispiel von William Kentridge und Tracey Emin. Schwerpunkte der kuratorischen Arbeit und Texte: Video und Installation, Fragen von Narrativität, Performativität, Gender-Diskurs sowie auf die Postkolonialismus-Debatte

Barbara J. Scheuermann works as curator at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen (currently on maternal leave). Before she moved to Berlin in November 2008 where she ran the project space Babusch and realized numerous other projects and exhibitions, she had worked as curator of contemporary art at Tate Modern, London, and earlier as assistant curator at K21, Düsseldorf, and Haus der Kunst, Munich. Lives currently in Cologne.

Her doctoral thesis (2005) analyses narrative structures in contemporary artworks using as example works by William Kentridge and Tracey Emin. In her curatorial work and her writings she mainly focuses on video and installation, questions of narrativity, performativity and gender as well as on the discourse of postcolonialism and multiculturalism.

As independent writer and art critic she has contributed, and still contributes, to Kunstzeitung, Informationsdienst Kunst, Art, (H)Art (Belgium), artnet.de, Kölner Stadtanzeiger, Intro, Missy, Take on Art (India), Art Pulse et al. as well as to several exhibition catalogues and other publications.
